The star Australian batsman injured his knee or leg when trying a catch on the boundary during the fourth Test, thus Usman Khawaja’s fitness is still in doubt as Day 5 of the Ahmedabad Test approaches.
The left-hander hobbled off the field and sat on the sidelines for over two hours as India batted. He did not come out to bat until late in the afternoon when Travis Head and nightwatchman Matt Kuhnemann opened.
“Usman Khawaja has soreness in his left lower leg, just below the knee on the outside of the lower leg. Will be assessed again on the ground, “He did have an (MRI) scan, which is standard procedure. The imaging did not reveal anything conclusive” a team spokesman said, per News Corp.
A fitness test will be performed on Usman Khawaja to see whether he can bat. Australia’s hopes of batting all day and securing a draw may be seriously hampered if he is unable to pad up on the last day of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series.
