“That’s The Best Innings I Have Ever Seen Live In T20 Cricket” – Daryl Mitchell On Suryakumar Yadav’s Ton In Mount Maunganui


The 31-year-old New Zealand National Cricket Team all-rounder Daryl Mitchell showered ultimate praise on the World No.1 T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav, saying that his century in Mount Maunganui against the Black Caps is the best innings he has seen in the history of T20 cricket.

India defeated New Zealand in the recently concluded three-match T20I series by 1-0, which saw rain interrupt the games numerous times. The first T20I was washed out, the Men In Blue won the second T20I by 65 runs and the third T20I ended in a tie as rain interrupted the game and the scores of the teams were levelled based on the DLS method.

The 32-year-old Suryakumar was the real difference maker in the second T20I as he slammed a terrific century at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, on Sunday, November 20.

He decimated the Kiwi bowling attack and smashed an unbeaten 111 runs off 51 balls at a remarkable strike rate of 217.65. His innings comprised 11 fours and 7 sixes.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Kiwi all-rounder Mitchell said that the “world-class” batter Suryakumar Yadav makes batting look very easy.

He is seriously good, isn’t he? I had the pleasure of bowling to him in the IPL. He is world-class. Obviously that innings, I personally think that’s the best I have ever seen live in T20 cricket. He is easily in some pretty good form at the moment, making the game appear easy,” Mitchell told Hindustan Times in an exclusive chat.

After the conclusion of the T20I series, the focus will shift to 50-over cricket as the teams will lock horns in a three-match ODI series, commencing on Friday, November 25, at Eden Park in Auckland.

Talking about the ODI series, Mitchell said that they are really looking forward to taking on the “best in the world” Indian team.

“They are world-class players. Obviously, at the international stage, they are really good and being able to experience the IPL with a number of those guys, you do see how talented and good they are. It’s awesome to have them across on our shores over here in New Zealand over the summer and take them on. We as a group really look forward to taking on the best in the world and India is definitely right up there,” Mitchell added.
