In the second ODI of the three-match series against Australia held at Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, the Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma faced a significant loss and set a new unfavourable record for themselves. It was their largest-ever defeat in ODI history, measured in terms of the number of balls remaining.

The Australian cricket team won the toss and opted to field first. However, the Indian team faced a significant setback as Mitchell Starc caused a top-order collapse leading to their low score of just 117 runs.

India’s batting performance was underwhelming as it began with the dismissal of opener Shubman Gill in the very first over, courtesy of a delivery from Starc, without scoring any runs.

Despite a confident start, skipper Rohit Sharma could only contribute 13 runs to the team’s total. Suryakumar Yadav’s struggle continued as he was out for a golden duck for the second time in a row. Mitchell Starc’s impressive bowling resulted in him claiming a five-wicket haul for the 9th time in his ODI career. India could only manage a score of 117 runs.

In response, Australia achieved the target in a mere 11 overs without losing any wickets. Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh played a crucial role in leading their team to victory, showing no mercy to the Indian team, which has won the World Cup twice. They secured the win for Steve Smith & Co. with a remarkable 234 balls remaining.

Significantly this is the second time under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy that the Men in Blue have suffered their biggest defeat in ODI cricket.

Australia will now hold the bragging rights up top after defeating Rohit Sharma and his side with 234 balls left to spare.
