The charges that ex-Jet Marcus Maye pointed a gun at a car full of teenage girls in a road rage incident have been dropped.
Travers Mackrel of NDSU, an NBC affiliate in New Orleans, reports that The Jefferson Parish District Attorney is declining to prosecute Maye in the incident, citing “insufficient evidence.”
Maye, currently a safety on the Saints, was arrested in September and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.
“Maye was identified as the driver of a black SUV that was involved in an incident in which he is accused of pointing a firearm at another vehicle that was occupied by several juvenile females,” the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said at the time.
Maye’s counsel maintained his innocence.
“Marcus vehemently denies the allegation from a motor vehicle incident and looks forward to defending himself when all the facts come out,” Maye’s attorney, Eric Hessler contended in a statement to NFL Media.
The alleged incident occurred in the New Orleans area after Maye had left the team facility.
Maye did not face a suspension from the NFL as the case was pending and started 10 games for New Orleans this past season.
Maye was drafted by the Jets in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft and played for them for five seasons before signing with New Orleans in free agency last offseason.
