Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against India. Jhye Richardson is likely to miss the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a hamstring injury. Nathan Ellis has been named as the replacement for Richardson in the three-match series.
Richardson has not played any cricket since he pulled his hamstring on January 4 and it took him two months to make a comeback. He missed out on the Perth Scorchers BBL title run and has not played Marsh Cup or Sheffield Shield cricket. The right-arm pacer played his last international for Australia on June 11 in a T20I match against Sri Lanka.

Following the Test series, India will host three ODIs, with the first match starting in Mumbai on March 17. The remaining matches will be played in Visakhapatnam (March 19) and Chennai (March 22), respectively. Richardson was included in Australia’s 16-man ODI squad, but the pacer has now been ruled out of the series and replaced by Nathan Ellis.

Richardson made his return to competitive cricket on Saturday in Perth, playing for his club side Fremantle against Wanneroo in a 50-over fixture. He managed only four overs before leaving the field and heading for a scan. He later went to the WACA ground to consult with the WA medical staff, and the scans revealed he had re-aggravated his left hamstring.
Jhye Richardson’s injury is another setback for Mumbai Indians as they are already without their star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is likely to miss the IPL season due to a back injury. The Rohit Sharma-led team would be desperately hoping that Richardson recovers in time for IPL 2023.
