By Matt Lieberman: Canelo Alvarez gave Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis a warning that he must be “careful” against Ryan Garcia because of his blazing hand speed and punching power ahead of their April 22nd fight on Showtime PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo used to train with Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) out of the same gym when the 24-year-old was with trainer Eddy Reynoso, and he’s seen first-hand how dangerous he can be.
The experience is on Tank’s side, Canelo says, but Ryan has got the kind of speed and power that could end the fight in a moment’s notice if he connects with one of his big shots.
It’s good that Canelo isn’t holding a grudge against Ryan over some of the things he’s said about him after he left the Reynoso gym. Canelo had said some things about Ryan’s worth ethic during an interview, and he fired back at him with a few remarks.
“Ryan is a very good fighter. He has fast hands, and he’s strong. Anything can happen in that fight. Gervonta Davis needs to be very careful with that,” said Canelo Alvarez to K.O. Artist Sports when asked about his thoughts on the Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis vs. Ryn Garcia clash on April 22nd.
“Tank has more experience, more test fights, so that’s why. But I don’t know. It’s going to be a good fight,” said Canelo.
“For me, I don’t care about tall or long. You seen me fight tall fighters. When you’re a good fighter, you don’t need to be tall,” said Canelo to Fighthype when asked about Ryan Garcia not looking that much taller than Tank Davis when they stood for the face-off at the two recent press conferences.
“Ryan is a good fighter. He’s a very talented fighter. He [Tank] needs to be very careful with Ryan because he’s a very strong and fast fighter,” continued Canelo.
“He [Ryan] needs to do his job and train 100%. He’s a good fighter. You never know in boxing. Ryan is a very good fighter, and anything can happen. I wish the best for both fighters, and it’s a good fight for boxing,” Canelo added about the Tank vs. Ryan fight.
